NPC Club Singles Championship
THE CLUB SINGLES HAS NOW CONCLUDED. THANK YOU TO ALL THE PARTICIPANTS.
How it works:
- The Club Singles Championship is only open to members of Newtongrange Petanque Club.
- There is a £5 entry fee into the competition.
- Due to the number of entrants, there will be 2 sessions on Saturday (morning and afternoon), consisting of three rounds, with 11 competitors in each. One player in each round will therefore get a bye.
- Session 1: 09:15 - registration, 09:30 start of play
- Session 2: 13:15 - registration, 13:30 start of play
- Each player will participate in 3 matches, after which the top four from each session will go through to the knock-out stages on the Sunday.
- The results of the competition and holder of the trophy shall be recorded and kept by the club/match secretary.
- A trophy will be awarded to the winner, as well as medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
The following rules and format for play are local rules and should be viewed as additions/allowed amendments to the Scottish Pétanque Association Rules for Play and Competition. Championship Format:
- Matches will consist of timed games of 40 minutes, plus one end. Games will not start until the ‘whistle’. After 40 minutes, the whistle will again sound. The end in play will finish and a further end will complete the match. An end will deem to have commenced when the final boule of the previous end has come to rest.
- The top 4 players from each session will enter into a seeded draw for the knock-out phase of the championship (i.e. quarter finals).
- The knock-out games will be timed and will follow the local rules as applied to the sessions section of the championship.
Local rules and etiquette Newtongrange Pétanque Club:
- A coin toss will decide who will throw the cochonnet (coche).
- Please remember to mark circles and coche.
- After the first end, place the circle round the coche.
- All strings are boundaries. Boules or coches fully crossing this line are dead. The normal rules for the coche apply: 6 – 10 metres etc.
- A coche thrown over the lane strings should be lifted and replaced on the correct piste, by the non-throwing player.
- A coche thrown under 6m and over 10m should be placed by the opposition player.
- Opposing players should primarily seek to agree between themselves the closest boules, but official umpires are available for the competition.
- Please observe the no smoking, eating, or drinking on, or around, the piste rule. This includes smoking/vaping at the ends or sides of the terrain.
