NPC Stay the Course
By Alan Gilchrist
Today saw the SPA ‘Introduction to Competition’ course held at Newtongrange Petanque piste.
A good turn out saw about 30 members of NPC take part in the training, aimed at members who haven’t played in National-level competitions before, so that they can become familiar with what is expected, and can ask questions, etc.
Alison and Ed from the Scottish Petanque Association lead the course, with Colin and Mags officiating as umpires. They took us through a mix of rules, etiquette and tactics, and answered the numerous questions raised by the group.
After a generous lunch of sandwiches, home-made sausage rolls (thanks Neil) and biscuits, we had a 3-round competition, with Colin and Mags keeping an eye on us.
All in all, it was a super day - the rain stayed away for the most part, and the course was well received, with lots being learnt.
